If you’re planning a trip to Oahu and looking for the best luau in Ko Olina, there’s a new experience in town. It’s called Kaula Luau, and after attending during their second weekend open (which happened to be media night), we can confidently say this is not your typical luau.

What Is Kaula Luau?
Kaula Luau is a new luau experience located in Ko Olina on Oahu’s west side, right next to the former Paradise Cove Luau space. It takes place on turf, and the surrounding area is paved.
The word kaula in Hawaiian means rope, cord, or string, symbolizing connection and binding. That idea of connection is woven throughout the entire experience, especially in the storytelling.
The Show: A Story-Driven Experience
Most luaus follow a familiar format with traditional dances, music, and a fire show. Kaula Luau feels different in the best way!
Without giving too much away, the story is narrated by a grandmother and her granddaughter, with the grandmother sharing the history of their family. That story becomes the thread that connects each part of the performance.
At times, it honestly felt like we were watching a live musical or stage production. Everything was incredibly polished, from the choreography to the transitions between scenes. If you have been to other luaus before, this one stands out because it feels more like a complete story rather than a series of performances.
Food & Drinks: Unlimited Bites + Bar Service
The food was one of the biggest highlights for us. Instead of a traditional buffet, Kaula Luau uses a food station setup. They describe it as food truck style, but it feels more like a curated food hall experience, with different stations you can visit throughout the night.
What we loved:

- Noticeably higher quality food
The food is provided by Moani Island Bistro & Bar, a locally owned restaurant in Ka Makana Ali’i shopping center, and you can really taste that restaurant-level quality. Drinks
Drinks are not unlimited, but there is a full bar available on-site. Prices were reasonable, ranging from $10 – $14.

A small but thoughtful touch: our transportation arrived about 20 minutes late, and the team gave us an extra drink ticket to make up for it. Overall, the setup felt well-balanced. You get great food included, plus the flexibility to order more drinks if you want.

- Be mindful of traffic if coming from Waikiki – the bus ride took about an hour

- Uber and Lyft are available (we found them to be around $60 one way)
